Welcome to 2020

We're going to launch this new decade with a quick look back at our customers' and friends' accomplishments this past fall. These FO's* are exciting for us, too. As new shop owners, it's nice to see knitters and crocheters create wonderful hand-made objects for themselves and for those they care about.

This is a collection of mittens made by Suze Laporte from the Saltwater Mittens book. Suze knit these up in Cascade 220 Superwash and her choice of colours is impressive.

Christine Forand finished the Falling Leaves Shawl, which uses one ball of Estelle Magic Shawl. She chose the Rose colourway.

Josette whipped up these soft and cuddly baby socks for her daughter's niece, baby Moira. The Universal Bamboo Pop Sock yarn is a blend of bamboo and cotton, and she chose the Muscadine colour way.

Chantal Godin took advantage of the felted slipper class that we held in December. She used the non-superwash Cascade 220 for this project.

Josette's mom, Betty DeBrouwer, knit the Mitchell Poncho with Scout by Kelbourne Woolens. She liked the project so much, she immediately cast on a second one.

Anne Thompson and her Reyna Shawl, which she knit up with Estelle Magic Shawl in Lagoon.

Cathy used one skein of Illimani Amelie in this easy-to-wear cowl for her mother.

Kelsey Breen created this lovely crochet hat using one skein of Illimani Royal. She topped it off with a Trillium Woods Pompom.

Join us for our winter KAL*

We've chosen the Ash and Fire Pullover, designed by Claudia Q for Eweknit. This DK-weight sweater is described as "a dark and mysterious circular yoke sweater with a simple lace pattern worked from the bottom up".

This free pattern is available in the store. We'll cast on on January 25, and we've designated the Saturday afternoon drop-in time as our KAL knit time. We already have a few knitters committed to the KAL, and they are doing it in a range of yarns, including Lichen and Lace Rustic Sport, Illimani Santi, Rowen Felted Tweed, Kelbourne Woolens Scout and Cascade Roslyn.

We have a WIP from TCK*

Any pattern by Tin Can Knits makes us smile. That's why we love their pattern book, Strange Brew, so much. What's not to like about a seamless sweater? We knew we wanted one in the store to show off to our knitters, so we pulled out some lovely Celtic Aran and got to work. This Merino superwash is a lofty worsted weight that will make for a cosy well-loved knit. We'll keep you posted.

Learn to knit socks two at a time
Back by popular demand, this class is perfect for those who want to master the art of knitting socks on a circular needle.

Feb. 20 and Mar. 5
Intarsia knitting
Intarsia is a great technique in which blocks of colour are worked with separate balls of yarn. Jeffi will teach you the fundamentals of Intarsia with the Flock of Sheep Pillow.

Once you have registered, please come to the store ahead of time to choose your materials and prepare your skeins. We will not be able to wind the wool into balls for these projects during class time. Cost is $33.90, taxes included.

For more details about any of these classes and to register, please stop in at the store or call 519-371-4311. Classes are limited to six participants, and we will need at least three registrants to run the class.

Our drop-in knit/crochet sessions are open to all yarn enthusiasts, no matter your skill level.  Stop by, show off your WIP, and get some inspiration from fellow makers on Saturdays and Tuesdays from 1-3 PM, and Thursdays from 6-8 PM
